Reflect and Act:
This week Jesus offers healing to his community. When Jesus appears to his disciples in the gospel for this Sunday, he is returning to a community that has gone through an incredible amount of trauma. The have seen their dear friend and teacher suffer and die a violent death. In response to this trauma, Jesus dwells with them, offers them words of comfort and hope, breaths peace into their midst, and through the vulnerability of his wounds helps to heal his community.
The women featured in this week's article offer healing to their beloved community through embodying and displaying the depth and beauty of their cultural heritage. In doing so, they are responding to a history of trauma and oppression in their communal life, and offering healing with their witness. Who are the people doing the work of healing in your community? How can you take part in that work this week?
