Activity Time: Puzzles
Supplies: Paper, Pen, Scissors, and a Bible
Give each an envelope with one of the beatitudes written on a slip of paper and then cut into pieces. (Luke 6: 20-23) The child will arrange the pieces of paper in the correct order and read the beatitude to the class.

1) What are things you worry about?
2) Is there an item of clothing you love?
3) How much do you love God compared to how much you worry?
4) Who dressed more beautifully than the lily?
5) How does Jesus care for us?
6) What should we do to focus on God?
Dinner Time: Drawing Crowds
Below is a prayer with which to start your meal and then discussion questions to explore this week’s topic with your family while you eat.
Prayer-
You tell us to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick, and visit the imprisoned. Bless all who provide comfort to those in need. Keep our own eyes open to the opportunities in which we can minister to others. For in the eyes of others, we shall see you. Amen.
Questions:
1) Why does Jesus draw crowds wherever he goes?
2) What types of people came to hear Jesus speak?
3) Do you think it made people happy to get close to Jesus?
4) What types of things make people happy?
5) What makes you happy?
6) What things does Jesus teach us to look out for so we’re not happy for the wrong reasons?
Bedtime: Reflections for Children at the End of the Day
During your bedtime routine, invite your children into a time of reflection about their day, maybe by saying, "Did you know that God really wants to know what happened in your day today, and that God is always listening whenever you need to tell God something?" Then continue with these questions:
1) What are some things that happened today that you want to tell God about?
2) What is one happy thing that happened today? What is one sad thing that happened today?
3) Did you see God or feel God with you when those things were happening? Where did you see or feel God when those things happened today?
4) Read to your children this week’s scripture selection, then ask the questions that follows.
Luke 6:17-26
Lots of people from all over the country surrounded Jesus to hear what he had to say and to be healed of their diseases and released from their troubles.Jesus looked his disciples in the eye and said,“You are blessed when you think you have nothing, because you really have the kingdom of God. You are blessed when you are hungry for something better, because you will be filled. You are blessed when you are crying now, because later you won’t be able to stop laughing.I know it’s hard when people hate you, exclude you, make fun of you because of me. Don’t feel too bad, because you’re in excellent company. That’s how the greatest prophets were treated too.Don’t think you’ve got it made because you have lots of money; that might be all you have.Don’t think you’ve got it made because you’ve stuffed yourself with good food; hunger will catch up with you later.And don’t think that if you’re laughing now, the fun will never end. Because it will. And soon you’ll be crying.If people can only say nice things about you, maybe you’re not pushing them hard enough. Don’t just do what feels good. People love it, but that’s not what you were called to do.”
