Week of February 24, 2019: A Good Measure (Ages 0-4)

Faith To Go Podcast: Abundant Redistribution of Resources

Hosted each week by the Faith Formation team at St. Paul's Cathedral in San Diego, David Tremaine, Maya Little-Sana and Jackie Pippin, the Faith To Go Podcast highlight themes from the Sunday Gospel reading for you to take into your conversations throughout the week

Activity Time: Love Like God

This week, do something to outwardly love like God loves. You can do anything you would like but here are just some ideas to begin your brainstorming.

-Pack a lunch for someone you see asking for help on your normal commute.

-Go on the next trip to Vida Joven de Mexico to play!

-Buy some items for the Shower Blessings at the Episcopal Church Center

Story Time: Gospel Reading and Reflection

Watch this video together and then use the discussion questions below to reflect as a family.

Discussion Questions:

1) I wonder what sort of choices you made today.

2) I wonder if you’ve seen another child fall. I wonder what did you do.

3) I wonder what you would want someone to do if you fell.

4) I wonder how God wants us to treat other people that fall.

5) I wonder how our actions show how much we love God.

Dinner Time: God's Love

Below is a prayer with which to start your meal and then discussion questions to explore this week’s topic with your family while you eat.

Prayer-

You tell us to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick, and visit the imprisoned. Bless all who provide comfort to those in need. Keep our own eyes open to the opportunities in which we can minister to others. For in the eyes of others, we shall see you. Amen.

-Call On Me: A Prayer Book for Young People

Questions:

1. I wonder how God loves you.

2. I wonder what you have seen because of God’s love.

3. I wonder how you can love like God loves.

4. I wonder what is something you can do this week to show God’s love.

5. I wonder what our world would look like if we all loved like God loves.

Bedtime: Reflections for Children at the End of the Day

During your bedtime routine, invite your children into a time of reflection about their day, maybe by saying, "Did you know that God really wants to know what happened in your day today, and that God is always listening whenever you need to tell God something?" Then continue with these questions:

1) What are some things that happened today that you want to tell God about?

2) What is one happy thing that happened today? What is one sad thing that happened today?

3) Did you see God or feel God with you when those things were happening? Where did you see or feel God when those things happened today?

4) Read to your children this week’s scripture selection, then ask the questions that follows.

Luke 6:27-38

Everyone, listen to me. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Be good to people who hate you. If they throw curses at you, throw blessings back. Pray for them. If they punch you in the face, don’t punch back, but shame them by offering your other cheek to hit. Give your coat to someone who asks, and food to beggars. Treat people the way you would want them to treat you and you can’t go wrong.

I know it’s hard. If it were easy, everyone would do it. If you love only people who are good to you, what would be special about that? That’s simple. “Love your enemies, do good, give from your heart and expect nothing in return.” That’s how God works. Follow God’s example.

Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and you will find that you have so much more to give. You won’t believe how many ways God will bless you if you love as God loves, and give as God gives.

-God’s Word, My Voice: A Lectionary for Children

Did the story remind you of anything that happened in your day today?

5) What are some things that you want to tell God that you are grateful for today?
