Reflect and Act:
In this week's gospel we hear about a younger son who leaves home in search of something. Along the way he finds himself out of resources, displaced, and in a land far away from his home. The story linked above is about a book of poetry by Solmaz Sharif called 'Customs,' about the experienced of being displaced from your home. Based on her own experience of being in motion around the globe, displaced from home, and coming up against all of the barriers to entry in the world, Sharif chronicles the experience of searching for something, whether out of desire or necessity. Who are the people you see looking for something in the world, either out of necessity or desire? What are the barriers you see in your community to welcoming those seekers? What could we do in our communities to break down these barriers?
