Take some time at dinner one night this week to read this fun fact and then discuss some of the questions.
Did you know...
…that Thomas wasn't always the one doubting. In chapter 11 of John's gospel, about nine chapters before the story where Thomas gets his name "Doubting Thomas" in this week's gospel, Thomas is actually the one who shows incredible courage in the face of uncertainty.
In that story, Jesus learns that his friend Lazarus has died and he wants to go back and heal him. The disciples are worried because some of the religious authorities in the town where Lazarus lived had just tried to hurt Jesus. Thomas, though, courageously declares, "Let us also go, that we may dies with him." It seems that it takes a lot of courage to doubt the way that Thomas does!
Questions for Discussion:
1) What does it mean to doubt?
2) Do you think it is a good thing to doubt? Why or why not?
3) What are some things that you have doubt about?
