Take some time at dinner one night this week to read this fun fact and then discuss some of the questions.
Did you know...
…that the perfume Mary poured on Jesus' feet in this week's gospel was worth an entire year's salary? The story says that Mary poured a pound of perfume on Jesus' feet, which was worth 300 denarii. A denarius was a form of money in Jesus' day and one denarius was what the average person was paid for a day of work.
So, 300 denarius would have been worth a full year's salary. Today a full year's salary in the United States is about $53,000. So it would be like Mary pouring a $50,000 bottle of perfume on Jesus' feet. That is a lot of money! This must have been a very important moment for Jesus to have with is friend.
Questions for Discussion:
1) What are some important moments you have had with your friends in your life?
2) Have you ever given up something valuable to share time with people you love?
3) Who are the people that make you feel most loved in the world? How do they do it?
