Take some time at dinner one night this week to read this fun fact and then discuss some of the questions.
Did you know...
…that up until Jesus used them in this gospel reading, the image of a bird brooding had only ever been used to talk about God in the bible? In the very first story in the bible, the story of creation, it says that the spirit of God "brooded" or "hovered" over the surface of the waters of creation. Then, later in the Hebrew Scriptures, God is described as an eagle who "broods" over its young and hides them under its wings.
In this week's story Jesus is using these same images and words to talk about himself. He, too, wants to be someone who creates a new world for his people and also wants to be able to protect the people that he loves.
Questions for Discussion:
1) What is something you would like to create in the world to help people?
2) Who are some of the people that have protected you in your life?
3) Who are some of the people that still need protecting in the world today? How might we be able to be like Jesus and offer them protection?
