DINNER: Why is Peter's story always different?

Take some time at dinner one night this week to read this fun fact and then discuss some of the questions.

Did you know...

…that the story of Jesus calling Peter to follow him is told three different ways in the bible? In the gospels of Matthew and Mark the stories are almost identical, with Jesus walking by and simply telling Peter to drop everything and follow him. In the gospel of John a completely different story is told, with Peter being invited by other interested people to come and see Jesus, who then calls him to be a disciple.

In this week's gospel, though, Luke tells a similar story to Matthew and Mark, except that before Jesus invites Peter to be a disciples he helps him catch boat loads and boat loads of fish, even after Peter spent all day not being able to catch a single one! Before Peter is invited to follow him, Jesus helps Peter, gives him more fish than he needs, and tells him that he deserve everything he has been given.

Questions

1) What does it feel like when someone helps you? Has being helped by someone ever made you want to go out and help someone else?

2) When was a time that you were given more of something than you needed? What did you do with the extra?

3) What did it feel like to have more than you needed? What could you do to help other people feel that way?
