Each week we'll highlight a current event or ongoing story from world and reflect on it through the lens of the gospel. First check out this article linked below.

Reflect and Act:
In the gospel story for this coming Sunday we hear that Jesus is in Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of the Dedication (i.e. Hanukkah), and only a few weeks ago we heard the story in Holy Week of Jesus entering Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. These story show us that Jesus was deeply faithful to his Jewish heritage and to the important rhythms and rituals of his community, which included these feasts, fasts, and celebrations.
Did you know that today (May 2 if you're reading this after Monday) is a very important feast day that marks the end of an important time of religious observation? Since April 1st, at the first sight of the new crescent moon, Muslim communities all over the world have been celebrating Ramadan, with special prayers and daytime fasting. Today, May 2nd, is the Eid, which is the official end of Ramadan. All over the world, people will be celebrating Eid, and as you can see in the article, Eid is being commercialized more and more every year in the US, a welcome sight to some but certainly not all. This week, see if you notice any Eid festivities in your community or neighborhood. Ask a friend or co-worker who observed Ramadan or Eid how it was for them. How can you celebrate with and support the Muslim communities in your city in this important time of year? Share your ideas as a group.
